at 27, a sweet friend offered to pay for this relatively aimless guy's first year of acupuncture school. she recognized it as the only thing i ever showed sustained interest in. at the same time i quit a job as a bookkeeper that literally kept me locked in a room about the size of a couch alone for 6–7 hours a day alone counting money. i started working at a small health food store that focused on homeopathy and flower essences. i knew nothing.

through work, through school, through self study, and some outside training it became clear to me that my passion was less about being a practitioner and more about the art of medicine.

stepping back a bit, i grew up in a small farm town of about 450 people. my high school years were tough on me. i was tough on myself. i dealt with anxiety and depression. when a small coffee shop boutique opened up nearby in galena, illinois that carried some nutritional supplements i started asking questions and self-medicating my anxiety. i bought herbal teas and essential oils. moreover, i bought hope that i could help myself affordably without the need for a practitioner and without the need for drugs.

i've come to own the fact that i've made my life as a salesman. but in my heart what keeps me going is a passionate interest in protecting and sharing knowledge and access to natural health. its big business these days. as anything grows, it runs the risk of getting watered down with inferior products and poor information. my most noble work is to educate and raise the conversation so that kids or the struggling or those with limited access will always find our environment to be a sacred place to bring their health concerns.

i’ve been fortunate to find others to join my team that share an equal passion for truth and health before sales and profits. i believe we can achieve both, but in our humblest ways we've all agreed to make it priority to help, or at least, to do no harm.
